For the project we wanted the presenter to be on a journey to find out the answer to "are we numb" to do this we will get shots of the presenter travelling, such as on the plane and in the car.
Firstly we found out the rules for filming inside a car since during my first project it was restricted.
I got around this by using a green screen and getting some stock footage of passing terrain which i then keyed in, however the way i did it was passable for a few seconds of footage but would not hold up or look realistic for an extended shot.
We were given these rules for filming inside a moving car
Complete Risk Assessment filled out prior to filming
Competence of driver must be assessed in relation to what kind of driving they will be doing.
Full brief before driving
Vehicle legislation to be complied with and safety checks carried out i.e. brakes, lights etc
Everyone must remain seated
Seat belts worn
Loose equipment must be properly secured
Driver to remain focused and keep hands on wheel
use fixed position cameras while the vehicle is in motion (hand held only when car is stationary)
Crew and equipment must remain at least 1 meter away from the edge of the road
We decided to use GoPro cameras instead of DSLR's while the presenter is driving, but once the car is stationary we will get shots of changing gear, turning the wheel and indicating using the DSLR camera as you do not need to see the car moving in the background.
Firstly however we wanted to practise the setting up and usability of the GoPro cameras.
I drove whilst Trine and Gavin used their GoPros attached vie suction cups, we initially tried to put the camera in front of the driver however that obstructed too much of the drivers view so we moved the go pro to the side
This was a good proof of concept and allowed us to decide before hand which shots would look the best, rather than be filming with our narrator and spend extra time changing shots and debating what looked good.
We also took the time to practise with the clip microphones which we could attach to the present and not have a shotgun mic either in the way or not pointing towards the narrator all the time.
We also got a good idea of what settings would work best with the go pro for the lighting and shutter speed.
